Just one month ago, Cleveland SURJ was getting ready to hold their very first chapter meeting. In the weeks since then, they’ve been showing up big. Right now, Cleveland SURJ is on overdrive working to support this weekend’s #YearWithoutTamir action.
As the anniversary of Tamir Rice’s death at the hands of Cleveland police draws near, the members of Cleveland SURJ are helping to lay the groundwork for bold direct action.
This weekend, they’re phone banking hundreds of white people to move them to action. And they aren’t just reaching people who are already active -- they’re identifying new potential supporters and moving them to action.
We’re hoping you’re ready to move into action too. Click here to find a #YearWithoutTamir action near you.
Cleveland SURJ is doing more than phone banking; they’re also moving white people into direct action and jail support trainings. They’ll be staffing phone lines during the #YearWithoutTamir actions and working to get people out of jail and back into action quickly.
Tomorrow, they are leading two canvasses in white communities, activating supporters and asking them to join the action and to call Prosecutor McGinty demanding justice for Tamir.
And on Monday, Cleveland SURJ will join with allies to deliver the thousands of SURJ petitions you signed to Prosecutor McGinty’s office, demanding that the officers who killed Tamir Rice are prosecuted.
Folks in Cleveland SURJ are doing our network proud, but they aren’t the only ones taking action. SURJ chapters in Charlotte, Eugene, Corvallis, Boulder, Asheville, Denver, Portland, D.C., Tucson, SW Florida, Ithaca and Las Vegas are all in too.
