SURJ NYC for Ferguson

SURJ—Showing Up for Racial Justice—calls on white New Yorkers to show up at the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District on Tuesday evening to demand justice for Michael Brown, justice for Eric Garner, and immediate federal action against racist policing in the United States.

The federal government has the power to arrest police perpetrators for civil rights violations, to pursue pattern and practice lawsuits, to seek consent decrees, and to dissolve local police departments when they’re out of control.  It’s time to use that power, now!  Black Americans need federal protection from the local law enforcement sworn to serve and protect.
This is a movement moment.  Young people of color are putting their bodies on the line to end police assaults against them.  White silence will be interpreted as white consent with police attacks on people of color.  White people are breaking our silence all over the country.
