Fundraiser & Vigil in Solidarity with #BlackLivesMatter Minneapolis

***answering the call for support & solidarity from Black Lives Matter in Minneapolis***

For the second night in a row, protestors in Minneapolis were shot at, as they were camping out in front of the 4th Precinct demanding accountability for the two officers who fatally shot a young black man on Nov 15th.

From #BlackLivesMatter: "The Black Lives Matter Network stands in solidarity with the five members of the #BlackLivesMatter Minneapolis chapter that were shot on Monday night. All five are reportedly in stable condition. Protestors were shot as they attempted to move a group of apparently armed white men away from a peaceful protest over the fatal shooting of unarmed Black 24-year-old man Jamar Clark by a police officer."

The Black Lives Matter Minneapolis chapter has been asking for solidarity funds to provide food for their folks, and to cover their legal fees following their actions on the ground.

Answering their call for support & solidarity, we invite you to show up with us this coming Saturday, to put down prayers for the lives taken by the state and to demonstrate tangible solidarity to those holding their ground in Minneapolis. (Note that in Chicago, protestors were also arrested following the release of the video footage of last year's fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald.)

Our ask is that you… bring $10 (or more if you can), and that.. you INVITE ALL of YOUR FRIENDS to this event page.

Save your $$$ this Black Friday & throw down solidarity funds instead.

We will have PRAYERS, MUSIC, ARTISTS (including a compa doing stencil-making) & SPEAKERS as part of our line-up.

As a collective of people of color, we strongly urge the unity between black, brown, indigenous and yellow bodies against the common enemy that is white supremacy. Today, the #BlackLivesMatter movement is crucial as black bodies are being targeted by the state in people’s homes and workplace, on the streets, and within the prison industrial complex.

In the wake of the (colonizer) holiday that is Thanksgiving, we also recognize that we are still walking on stolen indigenous lands. This is a moment for us to reflect on the real history of this country. It is a moment for us to honor the nations who are still fighting for their sovereignty and the fact that this empire state is built on colonization, genocide, and the stolen labor of black bodies.

ALL are WELCOME! That said, this space is not tolerant to any forms of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and ableism.

Bring a SIGN or cardboard for the stencil-making and a CANDLE for our vigil.

Please RSVP on the Facebook event page so that the organizers have an accurate count of how many will be there.
