6/24 UPDATE (please check the FB event page for the latest)
Hey everyone, in our feelings of urgency in response to of the murders in Charleston, South Carolina, we rushed forward in planning and publicizing this event without fully checking in with Black-led organizations/organizers in New Orleans that we’re in accountable relationship with. Tonight we heard and discussed questions and concerns from comrades representing one such organization. Based on that conversation, we are reshaping some aspects of this event (in ongoing conversation with our communities and comrades). We’re rethinking the “march and rally” approach (for white people), given concerns it will take up space and visibility in a way that could contribute to the erasure of Black-led organizing and resistance.
We are still planning to gather, act, and connect on Sunday at 4pm, in resistance to white supremacy and in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Please join us, and please stay tuned for updates.
There have been too many #Charlestons, too many #Baltimores. The time for white silence is over. The time to stand with people of color is now.
Come gather with others who share your grief, outrage and longing for a different world.
You do have a choice. You don’t have to be a part of the world of the lynchers. You can join the other America. There is another America!
